Question
Science sometimes explains that, when we become angry, the body produces certain chemicals that make us pound our fists or throw utensils against a wall. It is said that these chemicals need to be released somehow; otherwise, they cause some damage to the body.
But when anger remains invisible, how can it be released?
Answer
The only way to release this inner anger is for knowledge to arise immediately within us.
Here, the story says that Garuda arrived. As soon as he appeared, Ram and Lakshman were freed from their bonds.
In the Puranas, Garuda is used as a symbol of knowledge. There are many kinds of knowledge, but he represents the highest, most elevated knowledge. Garuda is described as the bird that flies highest in the sky. The Puranas also make him the vehicle of Vishnu.
What is the highest knowledge that can immediately help us in life?
It is the understanding that, at the level of the Self, we are all exactly alike. There is no difference between us at that level. But at the level of the body, we are very different.
Why are we different? Because of the three qualities of nature. Our thinking differs, our likes and dislikes differ, and our conduct and behaviour differ.
When we find ourselves in a difficult situation and are about to become very angry, we can immediately recall this understanding: everyone is different, and everyone thinks differently.
